Organic Pest Traps When Growing Tomatoes

Being able to control pests organically is great when growing tomatoes and vegetables because when being ingested it is such a benefit that pesticides and other toxic chemicals are not being taken into our bodies.
Here are some ideas for managing tomato plant pests in the garden:
- to stop crawling pests sprinkle crushed egg shells about 6 inches away and around the plants
- instead of using egg shells coffee grinds do a wonderful job too
- another method for crawling pests is to pour some beer into something like a pot plant saucer and leave it near the plants
- a mix of fish oil and soy sauce in a flat container pushed level in the soil is excellent for keeping earwigs away
- half a scooped-out orange shell turned flesh side down on the soil is good for collecting pests like slaters and the like – pick these up early in the morning and wash them out and replace them
I am sure you will find these tricks work a treat and will save you lots of headaches. But don’t forget to look under the tomato leaves for other pests as well because that is where they will hide during the day.
If spraying for pests ensure that the underside of the leaf is sprayed. A mix of 1 litre of water and 4 crushed garlic cloves is a great insect repellent and organic too!
